How to Fix iPhone 11 Pro Volume Buttons Not Working Problem?

Sometimes your iPhone 11 Pro volume buttons are not working after it crashed on the floor. You may assume that the problem was crashed by the damage of the buttons. This time we received a volume buttons failures iPhone 11 Pro from our customer. We have to tear down the phone to seek the reasons so that we can find the solutions to fix it. Let’s do it step by step as the description below:
1. Test the side buttons
We turn on the screen and press the side keys to volume up/down on the phone. We can see the volume buttons are not working, and it does not collapse. We may assume the internal flex cables are loosed for connection, or the side keys are broken. Now we have to tear down the phone to check the problems.
2. Tear down the iPhone, check the volume flex cables and test again
Here we will need to tear down the iPhone 11 Pro display screen. The procedures of the iPhone 11 Pro display screen teardown refer to our previous blog of How to Replace iPhone 11 Pro Speaker? When the display screen is torn down and separated, loosen the screws and the metal plates which are fixing the flex cables.
We can see the flex cables are well plugged, disconnect it and plug it again. Turn on the phone and check the volume buttons, it is still failed. Now we can exclude the possibility of the flex cables disconnection. We need to replace the volume button flex cable.
3. Test the iPhone 11 Pro volume buttons flex cable
Since the iPhone 11 volume button flex is combined with the wireless charger on the back panel, We have to replace both of them if we want to replace the iPhone 11 Pro volume button flex cable. To do this, we have to remove the battery out. Let’s take steps on it:
Firstly, we need to get a new iPhone 11 Pro wireless charging coil with the volume button ready. Let’s test the new volume button’s function. Connect the new volume button flex cable and the charging coil to the phone.
Turn on the phone and test the volume up/down buttons, press the buttons to see if it is working showing on the screen. Try to play a video or music, volume up and down to check it is successful for volume control. Now we can see the new volume button flex cable is OK. Let’s replace the new wireless charging coil and volume button flex cable into the iPhone.
4. Tear down the new wireless charging coil and volume button flex from the iPhone
We need to disconnect the battery cable and the display screen cables, and then separate and remove the display screen. Eject and take out the SIM card tray.
Loosen the screws and take off the metal plate which is for fixing the mainboard flex cables. Take out the mainboard.
Disconnect the rear camera flex cables, pry out and remove the front-facing camera and the rear cameras.
Pry out and remove the battery
Loosen the screws for fixing the volume button flex. Use hot air gun to blow on the charging coil and tear off the volume flex and the charging coil slowly with tweezers.
5. Install the new charging coil and volume buttons and assemble the iPhone
Install the new charging coil and volume flex cable onto the phone, make sure it is on the right position of the back panel. Plug the cables to the phone.
Tighten the screws for fixing the volume flex, tear off the adhesive tap careful from the charging coil.
Install the iPhone 11 Pro battery back, but don’t forget to past the battery adhesive tape underneath the battery.
Install the mainboard, and tighten the screws to fix it. Insert the SIM card tray. Place the metal plate and tighten the screws for fixing the flex cables.
Install the iPhone 11 Pro rear-facing camera and the front-facing camera back. Plug the flex cables back.
Place the metal plate and tighten the screws for fixing the speaker.
Install the display screen and connect the flex cables back. Connect the battery cable on the last.
Turn on the phone and test the volume buttons and the screen functions. Make sure they are all OK. Turn off the phone and assemble the display screen. Slightly press each corner and the edge, make sure it is tightly assembled. The whole repair procedure is completed.
Tear down and reassemble the iPhone may be a little complicated. We suggest you go to the Apple-authorized repair shop to check if you are not familiar with the iPhone 11 Pro interior structure. Anyway, you need to check if it is the systematic problems before you decide to tear down the phone and replace the iPhone 11 Pro charging coil with volume button flex.
