How to Repair Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Cracked Screen

No doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a beast in 2016’s flagship phones. The curved edges, makes it stands out among other phones. Samsung has opened the restriction for other developers to build more apps to fully make use of the curved display. However, this fantastic design makes the repair work extremely difficult. Let’s find out how to replace the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge’s screen step by step.

Tools Needed:

Step 1. Shut down the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge then remove the SIM card tray

Step 2. Heat up the back the S7 edge(until it’s too hot to touch).

Step 3. Apply the suction cup to the back cover of the S7 edge, be careful not to scratch the rear camera glass lens.

Step 4. Pry the edge of the S7 edge back cover a little bit to insert the thin metal spudger.

Step 5. Slide away the metal spudger a little bit then insert some business cards/playing cards to do the rest.

Step 6. Once the back cover has been released, undo the 12 Phillips screws holding the rear housing.

Step 7. Use the plastic separation tool to separate the top plastic bracket then remove the wireless charging pad.

Step 8. Disconnect the battery cable, power cable, display cable, and the volume button cable.

Step 9. Use a pair of tweezers to remove the loudspeaker module.

Step 10. Pop off all the antenna cables and the fingerprint scanner cable.

Step 11. Disconnect the earphone connector, front-facing camera connector, and the proximity and light sensor connector.

Step 12. Lift up the motherboard then disconnect the charging port connector.

Step 13. Disconnect and remove the rear-facing camera.

Step 14. Heat up to the adhesive underneath the battery, then use the metal spudger to lift it up (slowly and carefully).

Step 15. Undo 3 screws holding the charging port then take out the headphone jack.

Step 16.  Use the cotton swab to withstand the proximity and light sensor hole, then apply some heat around the top front glass panel.

Step 17. VERY gently press the screen assembly a little bit to leave a gap between the screen and the front housing, then very slowly insert the thin metal separation tool (don’t insert it too deeply, when the top of the separation tool reaches the hole, that’s far enough).

Step 18. Insert a thin plastic film/business cards/playing cards from the gap you created just now, then slowly and gently slide it through the edge.

Step 19. Use a soft/plastic tool (we used our fingernails LOL) to withstand the open gap (Keep the angle of the gap, DON’T widen it too big).

Step 20. Use a pair of tweezers to drag out the black adhesive around the edges little by little, two sides alternately (Apply heat to the edge when it’s cooled down).

Step 21. After all the adhesive has been cleared, carefully open up the screen from one side.

Step 22. Test the new screen works or not before the installation.

Step 23. Apply the 3M adhesive around the edges of the front housing, then reassemble the screen.

Step 24. Put the headphone jack back again.

Step 25. Reconnect the rear-facing camera.

Step 26. Reconnect the motherboard with the charging port then put it back into the position (avoid those cables and connectors).

Step 27. Reconnect the power cable, display cable, earphone connector, proximity, and light sensor connector and the volume button cable.

Step 28. Reconnect the fingerprint scanner connector and 2 antenna connectors.

Step 29. Reconnect the front-facing camera.

Step 30.  Put back the battery.

Step 31. Reassemble the loudspeaker module.

Step 32. Reconnect the battery.

Step 33. Re-put the wireless charging pad and the top plastic bracket.

Step 24. Re-assemble all the screws holding the rear housing.

Step 35. Put some 3M double adhesive around the edges then reassemble the back cover.

Hi, I was wondering how did you put the display (and glass) to the frame where you put other parts? Did you use glue or screws?? Thank you for your reply. 🙂

      |

Hi M, we put the display to the frame through adhesive, you can buy the adhesive when you buy the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge screen replacement. If you can’t find the adhesive or the adhesive is not available, use the glue or double-sided adhesive.

Hi, I bought a phone not from new, and in less then 48 hours the screen has green and pink tapes on the top and black with colorful dots the rest, went back and even if it was on 24 month of waranty they refused as said is my fault that i dropped or put too much pressure on the screen and broke the display even if this wasn’t the truth. It got like this out of nowhere. is it posible to have been faulty when bought it?

Hi Lavinia, Sorry to hear about it, as you say the phone is not new, the reason of it may be the screen is not good quality, you dropped it or put too much pressure on the screen lead to the display broken. You should replace a new screen replacement now but it is expensive.

I recently dropped my S7 edge and the screen cracked. Hence i was given a advise by one of my mates that the digitizer can be replaced but with a very less chance of of the survival of the LCD. So If i use the Fone as it is now will it affect my LCD.. and roughly After how many days will the effect come on my screen. Suggestions Guys.

    Hi I’m from Saipan,
I dropped my S7 edge phone face down about 4 months ago. There were no cracks but a small back spec appeared on my screen. Now my phone screen is flickering and turns black when my phone overheats. My screen works perfectly but I’m not sure what is the problem. Please help me determine the problem so I can get the correct parts.

    • BY kaye

Hi,Margie,’but a small back spec appeared ‘ that’s pretty indicative of a broken display. Actually displays can break without cracking the outside glass. Guess only way to repair is by replacing the display.

hi,actually there are many people encountered this problem, and there is hardly an efficient way to solve this, you can try this: Reset the display using the phone’s service menu. Open the dial pad on your device and enter *#0*#. Then click Red, Green and Blue to reset the individual pixels of each color in the display.Or you can try to cotact with samsung service to see what they can do about it.

I feel comfortable opening it up for the repair but am wondering if I get just purchase the front outer glass/screen and use the phones current components that are attached to the inside of the front screen? Is that a digitizer? I guess I am wondering if it’s possible to separate them(digitizer) from my broken screen and attach them to a new one OR if they both need to be replaced? My hope is to simply replace the cracked glass only.

Hi! Broke my Samsung pink gold lcd screen. i’ve been requesting parts from samsung customer service and still no reply. i’ve been waiting for more than two months now. The problem with my phone is that it’s pink gold which is very rare. I asked samsung if i could have a different color LCD installed to my pink gold phone. and they said that it will not be compatible and cannot install a different color LCD on my pink gold s7. im fine with my phone being two-toned just as long as i can use it.

Is this true? you cant have a different color screen installed to your samsung s7 edge?

        • BY Molar

I’ve also unfortunately smashed the front (got it on insurance) and have now smashed the back panel. I had a cover but unfortunately wasn’t on at time (stupid I know). If I put the cover back on, is there any harm in leaving my phone with the smash on back? The camera and USB ports all seem to work fine. Is it a good idea to repair or will this damage be purely aesthetic? Many thanks!

Hi,Dario. It is possible to replace just the back glass, you just need to follow the front part of the repair guide or here is the video you can get some tips from it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6RWdDS_qo0

why exactly would they make a product that has no replacement parts ? especially when people are now paying damn near 1000 dollars for a phone yet it comes with no backup screen and none available to public only the creators of it make the money and get away with giving people a phone that doesn’t change

Hi Catherine, sorry to hear that your S7 Edge got broken, well, it’s possible to remove the front glass only, BUT we strongly recommend you to replace the whole S7 Edge LCD assembly as it’s pretty hard and risky to replace the glass only screen, you can refer to the following video about Galaxy S6 glass replacement.
