How to Replace the Cracking LG G4 Screen in 10 Minutes

LG has announced a one-year free screen replacement program for the buyers of LG G4 in South Korea who bought the device before May 31st, 2015. This program indicates cracking phone screen is such a big headache for normal customers that some manufacturers use it as a marketing strategy. What if you buy an LG G4 outside South Korea but broke the screen unconsciously? Do Worry, follow this 10 mins step by step LG G4 screen replacement guide to for an easy DIY repair.

Tools Needed:

Step 1: Remove the battery cover.

Step 2: Take out the battery.

Step 3: Undo the 11 screws holding the rear housing of G4.

Step 4: Remove the rear housing with the help of Plastic Pry Tool.

Step 5: Un-plug the LCD screen and digitizer, front facing camera and rear facing camera connectors.

Step 6: Left out the Motherboard.

Step 7: Remove the front facing camera.

Step 8: Use the tweezers to pry up the vibrating motor.

Step 9: Remove the rear facing camera.

Step 10: Remove the earpiece.

Before removing the earpiece, you should remove the gold connector with a heat gun or you will damage the connector.

Step 11: Replace your cracked LG G4 LCD screen and digitizer with frame with new one. (Though the price of the screen assembly with the frame is higher than the screen assembly, this will save you hours of work and high risk of breaking the display)

The LG G4 screen replacement process is finished, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to comment below.

I have 2 lg g4 phones. One works fine but screen is cracked. The other useless because if boot loop. Can I switch the glass

Thanks for the instructions. They were very helpful in replacing the screen etc on my phone.

One small notice. When removing the earpiece on my phone the small gold connectors were glued down. It was quite hard to remove them without damaging them.

It may be of use to let people know this so they don’t attempt to just pull the earpiece out.

Again, thanks for the instructions. They were most welcome 🙂

Hi my friend, take out the LG battery cover and remove the battery. Wait a minute and install the battery back and try to boot your phone.

    HI
When the LG G4 gets stuck on boot up, is it the digitizer screen that is at fault, or the mother board? My screen is in perfect condition for display and touch commands when the boot freeze does not occur.
    Thank you

Nigel, maybe it is a soft issue, take out the battery for 10s then put it back and start the phone to have a try. If it is not useful, factory reset your phone (this will delete all data ). Press the volume down and power button until the Android boot menu appears. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down keys to navigate the menu. Select “Recovery” and press the Power button to select it.
Select “Wipe data/factory reset” and press Power. Select “Yes” to confirm. Once the format is complete, your phone will be rebooted and you can set it up as if it was new.

Your directions are misleading. I took The whole phone apart and was ready to replace the screen. Then the last step is to “install screen assembly”.
I BOUGHT ONLY A SCREEN. I wish to replace my cracked screen without buying the whole assembly. Please tell me directions for JUST screen replace without telling me to get a professional. I am quite capable of doing it with complete instructions. Now its apart and you should give those directions for those who can’t afford the whole assembly.
You must be trying to force people to buy your screen assemblies?

Hi, I’m sorry we don’t have the directions for just change the glass, it has a risk to damage your display if you want to have a try, you may find the videos on Youtube. Good luck to you. If you find the videos, tell us to know here.

These instructions NEVER show how to replace GLASS only. After waiting on this GLASS screen for 2 months, I want to I stall it. Why do I have to take out all these parts?

    • BY Andy
      |

You can’t just unscrew the lcd from the glass. You need the correct tools and solvents to replace. Checkout separating iPhone lcd from glass on YouTube and that will explain the amount you will have to go through.

Hello Andy, thanks for your reply. Our article is talking about LG G4, also we talk is replace the whole LCD SCREEN NOT only the LCD. Thanks again and welcome comment to us.

Hi,this article is mainly to tell you how to tear down the LG G4. Due to only replace the front screen glass is much more complicated and difficult in LG G4,even you take it to a repair shop,so we recommend you replace the LCD screen assembly.

          |

Hi Kristen, vertical irradiation with a strong light screen to see if we can see the image. If you can see image, the backlight is damaged, if not, the screen is damaged, both of these you need to change a new screen assembly. Here is where you can get a LG G4 LCD screen assembly replacement.May this can help.

Can I replace the glass without the digitizer?

    • BY kaye
      |

yes, you can replace only the glass lens without digitizer, however it needs very professional skills to do this job, it’s hard to make it by DIY repair.

Also there are hundreds of boot looped G4s on ebay for around £60. so you will get a spare back battery and digitiser in the frame if you know your motherboard is good.

I replaced the screen and midframe and now I have a weak signal. Any ideas?

    • BY Derek
      |

I have the same exact problem as you. It’s not just you or me that is having this problem I’m sure. There is something with the screen and mid-frame, whether it be a design flaw or the material used, that disrupts or blocks the signal, acting like a barrier. What I did as a temporary fix was on the bottom logic board, I found the antenna connector and tied a couple thin pieces of copper wire to it. The copper wire was from an old cheap pair of headphones, very very thin. I have the wire going from the board, through a small hole in the plastic protector, then out through the bottom under the back battery cover/back cover. I have it sticking out about 2 inches. It boosts my signal like I’m always next to a tower! And it does better than what it was before I first cracked my screen. The only problem is that it only really performs a miracle when it’s not in a case and the wire is exposed, but it really comes in handy!

I have just replaced my screen and bezel today and all seemed well, except knock to wake no longer works (I can live without it), but when I try to make or receive phone calls the audio works but the screen goes black and the back button stops functioning, and the only way to hang up the call is to remove the battery . Any ideas as to cause/solution. thanks

Did you ever get an answer to this? I just replaced the LCD screen and digitizer and everything is fine except when I make or receive a call the screen goes black and I can not hang up unless I take the battery out.

Which display do I need for a LG G4 from Sprint?

    |

hi, thanks for the swift response.

am i correct to say that the screen has to be replace together with the bezel? the screen and bezel are attached together and cannot be separated?

    • BY May
      |

Hi Jay, the bezel can be separated from the screen, however, strongly recommend you not trying if you’re not a professional repair technician or you don’t have any professional repairing tools. It’s very easily to cause further damage to the screen. Hope it helps 🙂
