Software Issue

Don’t use your device when charging it, this may heat your device and stop the iPad charging.

Way 1. Reboot the iPad

Every time when the Apple device appears unknown issues, my first opinion is force to restart the device. Hard reset can fix the issues caused by the software or Apps.

How to hard reset iPad

  1. Hold down the Home button and Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
  2. Continue holding the buttons even after the slider appears on the screen. The screen will eventually go black.
  3. When the Apple logo appears, release the buttons and the device will boot up as normal.

Way 2. Update the system to the latest iOS 12

Running an older version of iOS on an iPad can cause some unknown problems. Check the device version and update to the new system, go Settings>General>Software Update and install the latest iOS version. (Make sure you turn on and connect to the Wi-Fi network)

Way 3. Restore your iPad with iTunes/iCloud

Comparing to the hard reset, restore the device can fix more issues. There are two ways to restore the iPad, through iCloud or iTunes. Here we show you how to restore the iPad with iTunes.

  1. Open iTunes on the Mac/Windows PC, if you don’t have it, please visit iTunes Download to install one.
  2. Connecting the iPad to the Mac/Windows PC with a Lighting Data Cable. Insert your device passcode or to Trust This Computer if a message appears.
  3. Select your iPad model when it appears in the iTunes, back up your device and wait it finished to prevent data loss.
  4. After finishing the backup, click restore the iPad to restore the device. Once the restore is over, charge your device to see whether the issue is fixed or not.

Hardware Issue

If the not charging issues are caused by the hardware, the methods above are not useful. There are a lot of hardware that will cause the iPad not to charge, such as charging port, lighting charging cable, charger, battery, motherboard and so on.

Way 4. Clean the charging port

After using the iPad, the charging port may contain some dust, cotton or other stuff to prevent the device from charging. Clean the port with a toothbrush or toothpick may fix this issue.

Way 5. Use a new well-known charging cable

Check your data cable, maybe we have broken it inadvertently. If you find somewhere of the cable is broken, we should use another well-known charging cable to charge the device.

Way 6. Use a new well-known charger

If you cleaned the charging port and switched a new charging cable, it is still not charging, try to use another well-known charger. Also, if you charge the device with the PC, try to charge the device with a tablet charger from a wall outlet.

Way 7. Repair your device in the Apple Store or repair shop near you

None of the ways above works for you? Then you need to repair your iPad device in the Apple Store or repair shop because it could be a charging port, battery or motherboard problem.
