According to reports, the Apple iPhone 15 series will feature a 28nm OLED driver chip

A new OLED driver chip method will be added to Apple's iPhone 15 series, per a supply chain source, according to Gizmo. That is, from a 40nm HV upgrade to a 28nm HV upgrade, this adjustment will assist in further cut power usage and improving battery life.

Today, LX Semicon and Samsung System LSI are the primary suppliers of Apple's OLED driver chips. Driver chips from Samsung System LSI are mostly OEM by Samsung Electronics and UMC, while driver chips from LX Semicon are primarily OEM by TSMC, UMC, and Ge-chip. These driver chip designers and foundries are probably going to profit from Apple OLED driver chip process improvements. Furthermore, recent reports indicate that UMC would join the supply chain for Apple OLED driver chips in 2024.

Upgrades to the Apple OLED driver chip process could have two causes. First, the battery life of iPhone 15 series devices can be increased and OLED driver chip power consumption further decreased with the 28nm HV process. Second, the OLED driver chip process is being migrated from 40nm HV to 28nm HV by LX Semicon and Samsung System LSI foundries, while the 40nm process is being used for other types of chips, like eFlash flash memory. They are not particularly eager to accept orders for 40nm OLED DDI.

decreased their The demand for 40nm OLED driver chip foundry capacity has increased despite capacity reductions by China and Taiwan foundries for 40nm HV OLED driver chips. Flexible OLED shipments are still increasing. As a result, 40nm HV OLED driver chip foundry capacity can become scarce. A bottleneck of 28nm production capacity may also result from Apple OLED driver chips for the 28nm HV migration process. Chip designers are now vying for capacity in the 40nm and 28nm foundries as a result.

The IT Home search did not turn up any rumors about the upcoming iPhone's display is improved. However, it's anticipated that the entire series will have the Lingering Island design and that the iPhone 15 Pro series' bezel will get narrower.
