Live at Samsung Unpacked 2012 for the Galaxy S III Unveiling

FROM http://forum.xda-developers.com Posted May 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm We’re reporting live at the Earl’s Court Convention center in London for the Samsung Unpacked 2012 event, eagerly awaiting the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Stay tuned as things get underway for more information on Samsung’s latest flagship. Until then, head over to our newly created Galaxy S III forums to start the discussion. Update: Now that the event has finished, full specs can be found at the bottom of the page.   7:05 – Things have gotten underway with a cheesy video highlighting the various ways in which “you can always carry your friends with you.” It is “designed for humans.” 7:07 – Joining the London Metropolitan Orchestra is MC Suzie Perry taking the stage. 7:10 – “Not just about what smartphones do.” Instead, “it’s about how they do it.” 7:11 – JK Shin takes the stage and calls the SGS3 “the best-in-class smartphone in the world” thanks to their hardware. 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED (NOT PLUS! Pentile, here we come. :( ) 8 MP camera, 2100 mAh battery “longer than average.” 8.6mm 133g, Quad-Core (Exynos 4412) processor 7:12 – Design “inspired by nature,” and the phone “sees you, listens to you, and understands you.” Understands what you’re looking at. Eye tracking? Sounds like it! 7:13 – HSPA+ version end of may, LTE “this summer” 7:15 – Hardware design looks similar to SGS2, but more rounded and with a thinner home button. Still has hardware buttons (capacitive menu, hardware home, capacitive back) rather than software keys on screen like the Galaxy Nexus. Same plastic construction as always. Though, the blue (or grey?) variant seems to have the same faux metal as as the Tab 10.1     7:20 – Phone stays on when you’re actively looking at it with “Smart Stay” functionality, and answers calls when you physically pick it up. Offers Siri-like natural language recognition. 7:25 – Smart stay uses the FFC to stay awake when in use. S Voice “is more like a good friend that listens and response effectively.” To me, it sounds much more like a direct copy of Siri. To wake up the phone, you simply say “Hi Galaxy.” 7:26 – S Voice demo now, asking it how is the weather. Bad weather here in London. “I want to take a picture” launches the camera. Direct Call uses motion detection and proximity sensor to call the person you are texting, without any user input. Smart Alert personal assistant “keeps you informed of missed calls and messages.” 7:30 – More cheesy videos   7:32 – AllShare Cast and dongle enables wireless screen sharing similar to Airplay. AllShare Play allows remote access of your media. Developer APIs will be published to help build an ecosystem. 7:39 – Color Choices: Marble White, Pebble Blue. Ringtones are “maybe bizarre as well.” I agree. Strange ring tones. 7:40 – Pop-up play allows for picture-in-picture functionality. Very impressive. Video is resizable, appears smooth to my eye, and on these larger screens, has the potential to improve multitasking immensely. SGS3 killer feature, right here. 7:42 – Camera software seems impressive. “Best Photo” functionality allows you to take a series of burst shots, and it automatically selects the best. Face zoom and Face slide show do as they sound. 7:45 – 0.01 ms response time on 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED pentile (Boo!) display. 7:45 – Wireless Charging kit similar to Palm Touchstone. 7:48 – More cheese, followed by accessories talk. Wireless charger, mp3 player accessory, and in-car GPS stuff, and health accessories. 7:52 – May 29 release.
