iPad Mini Touch Screen Tested Okay Using Extension Cable But Failed After Installment
Background info:
Recently the problems of replacing iPad Mini digitizer touch screen is getting more common. While replacing a new touch screen, the function was perfect while testing with the extension cable, but when the actual installment is completed, touch malfunctioning occurred, such as: inaccurate touch, jumping, dead space, dead screen, and so on. It is not only time and effort consuming, but also money consuming.
The reasons of on device malfunctioning.
After research, we found out that the reasons are as follow:
The structure of iPad Mini`s digitizer is different from other iPad`s, there is an extra driving IC mounted below the gold connector. This IC has been written with the programs which allows the touch signal to be transferred to the logic board, which in normal terms, Touch Function.
Most of the IC components are made by lattice arrangement of Silicon Dioxide, covered by ABS plastic. Silicon Dioxide is like glass, it is crispy and fragile.
While using the extension cable, the IC was untouched during whole testing process, therefore IC was not damaged.
While testing the touch screen on a device, IC will not be damaged because only the connector (Green area) is required to connect to the socket, the pressure taken by the IC is not enough to break it.
During the actual installation. In order to attach the whole unit (red oval) flat and firmly, more pressing pressure will likely be applied by technicians.
Meanwhile, when installing the LCD, the holding screw will generate significant pressure, the Silicon Dioxide among the IC will be highly likely damaged by this.
Extend research:
It is also found out by ETS QC team that majority of the returns of QC passed iPhone 4 and 4s LCDs with touch malfunctioning issue, the crystals in the IC(red oval) were found smashed after the metal bracket being lifted up.
