So I recently started a little outside of work home business fixing Mobile phones, building custom computers and repairing PC's.

I posted my business ad in the local paper and in a day had received my first job to fix a iPhone 5 with a cracked screen, the customer had been to Apple and other repair shops that wanted over $200 to fix it. I got the screen for $30 and decided to fix it for her for free as she was my first customer and ask her to just put my name out there instead as word of mouth works wonders.

I met her at a coffee shop and started fixing the phone to find out the crappy PH that I had on me could not get the two screws that hold the home button in out as the head had started to fall apart. So really embarrassed I asked if I could take the phone home where I had better tools to finish it off and hand it back to her later that night, she agreed and I went home fixed the phone then met her at her work to give it back to her. She was so pleased by it that she hugged me and offered to shout me lunch or dinner one day.

I took her up on the offer and we had a really great time that we are now close friends and talk everyday and whats even better is she has told all her friends and I have been getting lots of new customers everyday as she is in Uni and alot of them can't afford the high cost Apple and some repair shops charge.

So not only do I get to earn money from a hobby, I am also getting to meet new people to have lasting relationships with.

  • Word-of-mouth are the cheapest and most useful ads. You did a good job!

Yes, this is why I figured for the first lot I will just do for close to cost price and ask them to put my name out there if they enjoyed the service and the end product.

I use to be a very shy guy, would never say a word to anyone I didn't know. But as I got older I started to enjoy talking to strangers and hear their stories. Have not found a girl friend yet, maybe later down the track hahaha.

  • Word of mouth has brought me over 2500 customers in 4 years, it's a great form of feedback and you always get kind people from it!

Friends ect ask why I have been doing the first few for such a low price, but have seen it work many times before of just doing a few test ones at the start so people can find out what you are about.
