Apple Rumored To Begin iPhone Trade-In Program To Boost Sales

Apple is working on iPhone trade-in program that encourage users to trade in their old smartphones, reports Bloomberg. Though it has offered some incentives for users to recycle their devices for credit in the past, this will be the first time that Apple offers such an in-store iPhone trade-in program to upgrade to new iPhone models,. Bloomberg said that the new program is cooperating with Brightstar Corp., a cellphone distributor. First of all, it would be able to handle the conversion process from one device to another more directly. Second, this would offer a direct interrelationship between phones traded in and phones sold. Starting this program by themselves allows Apple to do it right in their Apple Retail stores.

Both reuse and recycle programs allow users to trade in an iPhone 4S, or other devices. Users will apparently be able use an online wizard, to estimate what their devices are worth. With this incentive in place, users will be more likely to upgrade to iPhone 5 before the release of the new iPhone, which can help boost sales.
