We are required to provide a CPF or CPNJ NO. when shipping to local people in Brazil due to local import regulations executed by the Brazil Customs since 2006. The VAT Number, i.e. Value Added Number, includes the CPF NO. for people or CNPJ NO. for companies. Goods are unable to be cleared through Brazilian Customs without a VAT Number. However, if the recipient is not a Brazil citizen, then it is necessary to just provide a passport number instead.
